I have been using Object Dock Plus for ages now but one thing prevents me from dispensing with my XP taksbar and using the built in system tray feature and that is...it doesn't work properly and never has.
I was hoping that it would be fixed in version 1.9 but it's not.
Basically what happens when I choose to have a system tray on either a tabbed or zooming dock is this:
1.My network connection icon either does not show at all or is duplicated.
2.On mouseover the network icon(if available!) shows no popup information.
3.I use DX widgets but I choose the hide icon from system tray option, this works ok in XP taskbar's system tray but if I try it with an OD+ system tray the icon for the widget is still visible.
4.The icon for my Virgin PC Guard security suite is not visible at all in OD+ system tray but is ok in my XP system tray.
5.Generally the icons don't update correctly when apps are opened or closed.

I still use Object dock as I love making my own icons but was really hoping SD would have fixed the system tray by now as it would be nice to be able to completely replace the XP taskbar.
It's not the end of the world or anything but it would be nice to get this to work.

Actually that tutorial is now a little dated since version 1.9 no longer requires sdmcp.exe

I don't think there's been a fix for certain types of tray items. I use Comodo Personal Firewall and cannot get the Right Click menu to come up, nor do I see the changes in the icon with it. Same thing for ActiveSync, it just uses one icon for all states, although the right click menu does work. Those are the only items out of the 15 normally in the list so I'm not too bothered about it.

I approach it like this.....I normally hide the taskbar unless I need to access comodo and then for that one instance I'll unhide it and rehide it when I'm done. It happens so infrequently that it doesn't bother me but it would be nice if it worked.

I have the same issue with my internet connection not showing any activity on the system tray tabbed dock. As with Lantec it is not actually a problem...my router & modem show all the activity I need to see, but it would be nice if it worked.

It's My Secret

I agree with you lads,it's not really too much of an issue but I'm so addicted to this customization malarky now, I get a little obsessive lol   Unfortunately my router and modem are in another room, but if I ever finish decorating this place I'll probably move them.  Cheers lads.

Um, if OD doesn't need sdmcp.exe anymore, why is it still running on my machine? Should I remove/disable it? Should I wait for a Stardock update to take care of this? What's the scoop?

ObjectBar, DesktopX and perhaps some other apps still use it.
I would expect as they get upgraded the Stardock Master Control Program will fade away.

I get to retract this statement. I played with it a little last night and found that if I reset the image for it to the original icon (small & crapppy) it does change states. I had tried setting different icons for the different states and THAT didn't work.

Thanks Zubaz. Since I'm running this test machine on Vista, I only have ObjectDock, Stardock Centray, Control Tray, DeskScapes, and LogonStudio Vista installed. I think I manually checked "Enable MCP SmartStartup" when I saw that OD re-enabled system tray support for Vista in a recent beta. I've now unchecked that and unchecked "Enable MCP notification area support" as well. Those items made sdmpc.exe disappear from the running tasks. Let's see how it works.
