I just got a new PC ,it's a HP A6085UK with Radeon X1650SE and Vista Home Premium.
Aero effects etc all work great and I started re-loading my Stardock stuff once I had completed set up.
There is a major problem with WindowBlinds though...every time I reboot I get BSOD and have to re-start from options given ( I chose 'start normally').
Here's my WB system info: (it looks to be installed ok)
Your computer has a Windows Experience Index base score of 4.2

Your Windows Graphics Experience score is 4.7

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 6 (6.0 (beta build 36 x86 - Vista Edition))

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC

WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC

(Generic PnP Monitor) 1 is attached to Radeon X1650 SE

Wblind.dll 2007/08/07 11:43:20
Wbsrv.dll 2007/08/02 11:25:02

Tray.dll 2007/07/24 10:21:49
Wbload.dll 2007/07/24 10:33:56

I really don't know what to do.Should I be contacting HP? I did consider this but the problem only occurs when I load WindowBlinds.
Thanks in advance.

PS All the latest drivers are installed and I have tried both the new beta WB and the previous version.I have also scoured the ATI website for a solution but I might as well have tried to contact Elvis through a medium.
I notice that directx 10 is installed on this new pc.Is this needed to make Vista work? Can I change back to directx 9?I can't see anywhere that the gfx card is dx10 compatible(although I can't imagine why it would be supplied with the pc if it wasn't suitable) so maybe I need to do this.
Ideas anyone ??
It's been a frustrating day all in all.

What USB devices do you have plugged in?

on Aug 26, 2007
Hi Neil,
I have a few:
Freecom external HDD,
iPod Dock,
HP Remote Sensor (for remote control),
HP Receiver (for wireless keyboard and mouse).
Thanks for getting back to me.

Unplug the Remote sensor.

Hi PurrBall   Unplugged remote sensor, reloaded wb6beta,rebooted and............ yesssssss!no more bsod!!
Thanks so much for your help,I was starting to think I needed to get a replacement from HP(or worse, not be able to use WindowBlinds!  ) so this is a great relief.
Thanks Neil aswell for the pointer.
This forum is the most reliable source of help and info I have yet to find on the WWW.

Wheew! off to play with my new PC now.

Are USB devices a common cause of the frequent BSOD's with WB? Ever since I switched to Vista, I am unable to run WB. I tried version 5 and over the last weekend I thought I would give version 6 a try, but I still receive numerous BSODs. They usually list an issue with win32k.sys. As far as USB devices are concerned, I have a Logitech G5 Laser Mouse, a Logitech G15 Keybourd, and 2 Linksys EtherFast 10/100 USB NICs.

Thanks for any input.

My bsod listed win32k.sys issues too CRobin,so maybe it is a common problem with usb devices.I have limited experience of this but maybe someone else can help.

Yesterday I reinstalled WB6 and checked the "allow this service to interact with the desktop" option. WB worked yesterday, but today when I booted my system up, I got the BSOD again. Here is my system information.

One would wonder if the devs are even looking into this.

I would hope they are CRobin.By the way that's the exact message I got when I got the bsod.
It's extremely frustrating as my pc is new and I can't use the remote control for the media centre feature due to the fact that the remote sensor has to be unplugged to prevent bsod on reboot.
So basically I have a new pc which I can't use in it's full glory...unless I dump WindowBlinds.
As soon as I stated in this thread which USB devices were plugged in PurrBall knew what to do,so I can only assume that the SD devs do too.
A comment from them would go some way to allaying my disappointment at the moment.Or am I just supposed to accept that features on the new pc will remain unuseable if I wish to continue with WindowBlinds.
Stardock...over to you.

yes, it would go a long way, if the devs would speak up and say that they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. My pc is brand new as well. I never had this issue with WB on XP Pro. I have 1 USB device that may be causing an issue, but I won't replace that until this weekend. I'm not holding my breath, though, that that will resolve my issue.

Hey CRobin thanks for posting here,at least I know I'm not the only one with this problem,so thanks for that.
I definately can't replace the remote sensor ,it came with the pc and I see no reason to do so.It's brand new and part of the package which makes all the wireless stuff work.
I could understand if it was some 6 year old card reader causing a conflict and would be glad to replace that. But it isn't,it is brand new vista compatible hardware supplied by my pc manufacturer.

The devs are aware and have responded. Silence does not mean nothing is being done. It can also mean that they are working on it and will respond here or privately when more information is available.

ok thanks Zubaz I see what you are saying.
I just didn't consider having to unplug and not use my new hardware as a solution in the long term. But yes,I'm sure it's being addressed at SD.
Thanks for being the calm to my little storm here.

Whew!

Zubaz stops packing the flamethrower, closes the google map to Worthing, and buying tickets to the UK.
